Describing London in Shakespeare’s Time

This, undoubtedly, feels like my biggest and greatest achievement yet. I can’t believe that, after years of studying and reciting classical texts, I would find myself standing in the middle of greatness. The moment I stepped into the large city of London, I noticed how the city seemed to be buzzing with life and movement. The streets twist like the tangled thread, its towering stone buildings casting long, jagged shadows over the bustling crowd as merchants trade and beggars pray in silence. This truly does show the thin line between fortune and misfortune. I mustn't dwell too long on the people—soon enough, I'll be performing my wondrous plays for them. Oh, how I would love to praise this marvellous city, but there is one upsetting detail I must mention… The air reeks here! My senses are just completely overwhelmed with the acrid odour of waste being thrown carelessly onto the street; I gagged as the stench assaults me, the streets alive with the careless filth being tossed from windows above. Someone—anyone—ought to fix that! Other than that, I enjoy marvelling at the sheer vibrancy of London. I admit that it’s quite a pleasant difference from Stratford Upon Avon, my home town..

I ventured deeper into the heart of the bustling, sprawling city, and I spotted a river of people gathered around an open, dusty courtyard, cheering and shouting. What could’ve been so exciting? I had to find out! With enthusiasm and curiosity, I approached the large crowd and managed to get a sight of what had them captivated. It was…brutal! In the centre of the ring, a provoked bear lashed out, its massive claws slicing the air as angry hounds lunged at it from all sides. I found the violence quite upsetting; the delighted crowd's cheering seemed to blend in with the bear's growls. I quickly came to realise that this is London: wild, unpredictable, and full of eventful pastimes. I may not be fond of it now, but as time passes I will learn to love this side of life.

Here is where my dreams of writing, acting, and creating will come to life. The appreciation of theatre has never been higher, thus, this is a risk I am willing to take. The pulse of the city calls to me, urging me on to move forward. I think constantly of the great actors I might meet, the grand stories I’ll produce, and the applause that’ll echo from the streets and into my ears. Here, in this noisy, filthy, magnificent city, I feel alive—my first day is coming to an end, I should get straight to work.
